SAQMI (The Swedish Archive for Queer Moving Images) joins forces with Trans Hälsoplattformen to bring a very special, raw, and powerful art exhibition: “Our health – our lives! / Vår hälsa – våra liv!”
We welcome you to the Trans Health Platform’s inaugural art exhibition, complementing the first National Conference on Trans Health (11th-12th of November).
In a world where self-identification is often questioned and challenged, where rights can hang in the balance, this exhibition becomes a sanctuary for authenticity and resilience. Here, you will witness the raw and unfiltered emotions of individuals who have faced the exhausting task of explaining their true selves to a world that sometimes struggles to understand.
These personal testimonies provide a glimpse into the lives of those who have faced societal barriers, discrimination, and the relentless fight for their rights. As you navigate this immersive journey, we hope you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the trans and non-binary community, standing in solidarity with them and perhaps discovering common threads in our struggles. Let us learn, empathize, and celebrate together as we amplify the voices of those who have dared to be their authentic selves.

The Garnet Initiative / Sverige / 2022 / Installation
Stories provided by the trans community in Sweden, for an anonymous survey collected by The Garnet Initiative. The intention of this survey was to be regarded from an open-minded, sustainable, big picture point of view. This included how healthcare has been constructed with the absence of trans and gender diverse representation. Cisnormative systems of oppression are deeply embedded in how little progress has been made in adopting standards of care that reflect self-determination, informed consent, and bodily autonomy.

Att utredas för könsidentitetsstörning / Evaluation for Gender Identity Disorder

En performativ läsning av citat från Lundströmmottagningens omänskliga utredningsprocess.
Lundströmmottagningen är idag ett namn som får mitt blod att frysa till is. Oräkneliga är de övergrepp som där har begåtts på transpersoner, i form av en grym utredningsprocess som i stället för att hjälpa sätter prov på patientens psykiska hälsa. Jag gjorde själv den första delen av min utredning på Lundströmmottagningen, men det jag var med om där bleknar i jämförelse med det jag har hört andra berätta. Kravet att genomgå intelligenstest. Att få frågor som “har du någonsin haft sex som en kvinna har sex med en man” – och på grund av mottagningens sjuka maktställning vara tvungen att svara.
I situationer som dessa är det viktigt att bevara något mått av värdighet, visa upp – inte minst för sig själv – att man inte låter sig kuvas, inte accepterar vilken behandling som helst. Jag samlade in citat från ett tiotal personer som gått i utredning på Lundström, på saker deras utredare sagt till dem eller skrivit i deras journaler. Tillsammans med mina vänner Samuel och Ragnhild åkte jag till Alingsås och filmade när vi läste upp citaten i och kring mottagningen. Detta resulterade i en video som premiärvisades på Live Art Strömstad 2016.

Trans Testimonies – UIG: Gender Identity Unit of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona

Video testimonials produced by Trans*forma la Salut (Trans*form the Health) and presented together with the law proposal which included a new healthcare model for trans and non-binary people. The platform is formed by different groups, individuals, and at least 23 organisations & associations that emerged in 2015 to demand a new healthcare model for Trans people in Catalonia. Since the approval of this model in 2017 by the Generalitat of Catalonia, the Platform ensures its full compliance and its improvement to guarantee decent and quality health care for all trans & non-binary people.
