SAQMI Website Release Event by Enqueery:

When you find a SAQMI near grab hold of it as hard as you can and never let go.

On May 5th we at ENQUEERY: Festival of Queer Curiosity celebrate (っ◔◡◔)っ ♡ SAQMI, The Swedish Archive for Queer Moving Images ♡. Their existence, their work, their new website, their publicness. Not only does SAQMI collect, archive and make available films that are otherwise hard to access, they also facilitate a coming together in space by organising events for and by LGBTQIA+ communities.

Today, as they release their new website, we want to share with you three films from their archives that were going to be screened during ENQUEERY.

With curiosity at their core, all three films challenge questions of desire, body modification and self-representation.

From (っ◔◡◔)っ ♡ Malin Arnells ♡ Possession Principle, Flames of Protection (2012) – a study of the performance of the self-inflicted ritual, hair removal by flame, which both questions concepts of self slaughtering as an act of seduction and responds to the violence found in acts of burning.

To (っ◔◡◔)っ ♡ Marit Östbergs ♡ Ladybeard (2014) where, as Östberg puts it, ‘’The cunt has the cake and eats it too.‘’* A gentle cunty tale where the protagonist – the cunt – circludes, accessorises, dresses up.

And (っ◔◡◔)っ ♡ Mattias Anderssons ♡ I Fell in Love with My Straight Best Friend: TRULY BLIND (2019) A one-sided tear-jerking account of love, where Andersson strips down the emotional hurdle of unrequited love.

The films will be available via link and password on THIS PAGE on May 5th at 16:00 until May 6th at 16:00.

Sadly we were unable to host the Festival this April due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and while we wait for a more favourable future, we shift our aim and now wish to engage with you through the internet, providing you access to a new and adjusted program in hopes of continuing a rethinking of public space – now an online public space – of coming together by any means possible, by sharing experiences and works, thoughts and time together.
