About the film Nel mio nome / Into my name:

Four friends – Nic, Leo, Andrea and Raff – tell the stories of their gender transitions. Looking back on their childhood and youth, they share their personal memories and experiences. Even if they did not always conform to the social norms of femininity – all four were socialised as girls. Each of their gender biographies may be different, yet there are parallels. This helps them to understand each other and feel less alone. The discussions with partners, the choice of pronouns, the hormone therapy, decisions about surgery and dealing with the authorities – the processes are diverse,and lengthy. In the strictly binary world we live in, the decision to determine one’s own gender identity is a subversive act. 

Nel mio nome gives trans people a space to describe their personal paths to their own identity with the name they have chosen for themselves. The film is also a frank and sensitive depiction of the hurdles that they have had to overcome in society in order to implement the necessary social, physical and legal changes.

The conversation after the film will be based on the film’s stories about transgender people’s processes and life situations, but also about the importance of friends, chosen families and safe spaces. Participating in the conversation are Juno Frisk (Transammans), Silas Lilo Jensen (SAQMI) and Theo Vasilopoulos  (Reclaim Pride GBG).

SAQMI – The Swedish Archive for Queer Moving Images is one of the only archives in the world for queer moving images.

Reclaim Pride GBG is an anti-capitalist movement for and by LGBTQIA+people, working towards a Pride without commercialization and pinkwashing.

About the participants:

Juno Frisk is head of operations for Transammans Culture and has many years of experience working with trans issues, culture and trans culture.

Silas Lilo Jensen works at SAQMI as a technician and podcast producer. They are a musician, artist and culture producer with many years of experience in organizing queer meeting places and events.

Theo Vasilopoulos (he/they) is a Masters student of Gender Studies at the University of Gothenburg. Along with their studies they have been active in Gothenburg’s queer activist scene by co-organizing TDOR 2022 and participating in TDOR 2024, co-organizing and being involved in Reclaim Pride Gothenburg, as well as a performer for the drag collective “CULT of Drag” and a host for Trans Hälsoplattformen’s first two conferences on Trans Health.
