OFF – Odense Film Festival: Beyond Festivals – Alternative Exhibitions Practices for Moving Images Work

Friday, August 28, a panel talk hosted by Odense Film Festival, in collaboration with Talking Shorts, will bring together different perspectives on core questions around short films.

Talking Shorts’ “Beyond Festivals” series explores alternatives in short-film exhibition, programming, and distribution, focusing on underrepresented, local, and political models of making and sharing films. The series brings together artists and cultural workers working beyond the ‘industry’, asking what happens “before” and “after” the festival circuit, with care for the longevity of the short film medium.

For this panel, we will be looking at alternative exhibition practices for short films, beyond international festivals, particularly looking at initiatives and approaches that aim to be part of a wider communal effort to build, protect, and educate. Audiences will hear from filmmakers and curators in various European countries who will share best practices, challenges, and surprising finds that foreground a more expansive notion of audience care and potential.

The conversation will take place at 15:00 (CET) during the 41st edition of Odense Film Festival at Rosenbækhuset, in Denmark. It will be moderated by Savina Petkova (Talking Shorts), who will be joined by Anna Linder (founder of SAQMI – The Swedish Archive of Queer Moving Images), Afsun Moshiry (curator of Sinema Transtopia), and lau persijn (co-founder ACAB KINO and one field fallow).
